Canam-Heavy
Canam’s services were selected for the supply and installation of the entire envelope of the Mirabel Aerospace Centre Pratt & Whitney Canada aircraft hangar.
Canam provided Murox prefabricated load-bearing wall panels as well as conventional steel structures such as joists, joist girders and steel deck. This building, which houses two aircraft hangars, features Murox ventilated thermal panels (VTP) on the structure’s southern face that capture solar energy and preheat outdoor air as means of reducing heating cost – forecasting $ 9,300 per year for this hangar. The exterior finish of this construction is a metallic coating Murox installed at the factory. The main girder weighs 190 tons and is nearly 200 ft (61 m) long.
This project is the first of six buildings for Pratt & Whitney Canada. This facility is used as a flight testing hub.
Area: 300,000 ft2 (27,871 m2).
