Description

Canam’s services were selected for the supply of the structural steel for the Cougar Helicopters hangar located in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

This 108,000 ft.2 (10,034 m2) hangar is made of standard and long-span joists measuring 93 ft. (28.3 m) long, steel deck, purlins and girts as well as welded wide-flange sections (WWF). These sections had to be segmented for delivery purposes and assembled with bolted splices on the site. Once assembled, they measure between 90 and 122 ft. (27.4 and 37.2 m).

As the hangar ceiling is visible, all the steel components have been primed in gray (1-73a) for a more aesthetic finish. For this project, a total of 400 tons of steel was required. This hangar also includes a two-story passenger terminal.
