Construction of the first phase of the 51st Parallel Medical Marijuana Facility located in Lethbridge, Alberta. The building includes office space and growing rooms for the cultivation of cannabis. Major changes are coming to move from growing cannabis to growing hemp for oil.
The building envelope is composed of the Murox load-bearing wall panel system, which is very effective for this type of cultivation. As the installations must be washed frequently, the interior panel joints between the vertical sheets and the covering flashings have been sealed with silicone to prevent infiltration of wash water and the growth of bacteria. This feature has resulted in higher resistance to steam migration in the panel caused by higher moisture loads encountered in cannabis grow operations.
Area: 50,000 ft.² (4,645 m²) growing room space, 25,000 ft.² (2,322.6 m²) office space.
This project will have a total area of 180,000 ft.² (16,722.6 m²) by 2020 at the end of the three construction phases.
